Redbird: Live at the Cafe Carpe
This product is not available
More a moveable feast than a band, Redbird is a loose collective formed by critically acclaimed songwriters Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault, and Peter Mulvey, accompanied by guitarist David Goodrich. The trio has recorded only two albums together, and convened occasionallt to trade songs, stories, and instruments. Three touring musicians with distinct careers and diverse catalogues, Redbird brings an improvised session to the stage, a musical conversation as likely to include Ray Charles as Prince, and Hazel Dickens as Duke Ellington: a love letter to American music that cuts across genres and generations. Redbird captures the spark and intimacy of a late night hotel room guitar pull, letting the audience pull up a chair and hear the kinds of songs musicians play when no one’s listening.
THE TELEGRAPH (UK): "Mulvey... sings tenderly and complements Foucault's bluesy, soulful skills and Delmhorst's more classic folk approach. They combine particularly impressively"
ALLMUSIC GUIDE: "Spontaneity rules. Familiar tunes get new readings. Little known gems are unearthed... good picking, satisfying harmonies, and loads of fun"
NO DEPRESSION: "Kris Delmhorst... beautifully flaunts a minimalist artistic approach..."
THE NEW YORKER: “Jeffrey Foucault sings stark, literate songs that are as wide open as the landscape of his native Midwest.”
BOSTON GLOBE: “Peter Mulvey is all substance, which is his style.”
